The Youth Center’s mission is:
To intervene in the lives of young people through early identification and early intervention.
To provide a safe place for youth to belong and interact with supportive adults and develop pro-social attitudes and healthy behaviors that will translate into better school performance.
To reduce involvement in risky behaviors and improve the overall well-being of the youth in our community.
To provide opportunities for youth to show that they care-about others and about society.
To support the development of youth’s knowledge in a variety of ways, including: tutoring, sports, the arts, vocational education, service learning, gang prevention training, character development, and mentoring.
The Goal of The Garland Hayward Youth Center is to help youth achieve the necessary skills to make a safe and healthy transition into adulthood.
G.H.Y.C. aspires to influence the atmosphere and reputation in Princess Anne, MD by producing leaders equipped to lead a nation. G.H.Y.C. generates an atmosphere that will benefit personal growth as well as growth within the community.
The purpose of G.H.Y.C. is to provide children with a positive environment that will help them grow academically, spiritually and emotionally, G.H.Y.C. focuses on erasing the stigma that has plagued our communities for centuries; located in the center of a needy community, G.H.Y.C. effectively serves the entire community by offering academic support, drug prevention, mentoring, extracurricular activities, college preparation courses, computer programming classes, art classes, nutrition classes, and a year-round leadership academy. It is our desire to see young people succeed in a world that has marked them as a lost generation.
